Dual Boot Windows 7 and 8

In this tutorial I am going to show you how to dual boot Windows 7 and windows 8.
With dual boot you can use both operating systems, side-by-side, until you're comfortable enough with Windows 8 to go all in. To configure your PC for dual-boot, all you have to do is create a new partition for Windows 8, then install it.

Before you go one step further, make sure you have a complete backup of your hard drive, just in case things go wrong. This is a pretty safe operation,

So, the first step on creating a dual boot is creating a partition for our Windows 8 installation

To create a partition , go to My computer icon >> right click and then click on manage.

After this click on Disk management option and a prompt will open like figure below.

Here we need to create a partition to install windows 8. To create the partition just right click on volume C and then click on shrink volume.

When you click on shrink  volume, its going to Queuing the hard drive for available shrink space.

Here you can select the size of the partition. Your partition must have 16 GB or more than 16 GB. Make sure 16 GB and more than 16 GB is recommended partition space for Windows 8.

Give the partition space and now click on shrink.

Now once you have created the partition you have to make sure that you can identify the partition. You can Format or rename and however you can do anything to identify the partition.

Now insert the Windows 8 disk into the drive and restart the computer. When you restart you should be able to see press any key to boot from CD or DVD.

After this click on NEXT and then click on Install now.

Insert the Product Key and then click NEXT.

Here you select the partition which you initially created to install Windows 8 and click NEXT.

After this the Windows installation prompt will open and during the installation your computer will restart several times.

After completing the whole Windows installation procedure a prompt will open like a figure below, where we can choose which operating system to start either windows 7 or windows 8.

After some personalization and Finalization procedure we will have Windows 8 on the same computer which also running Windows 7.

Now if you want to delete your Windows 8 and want to operate only Windows 7 operating system  again just go to Disk management and select the partition where you installed your Windows 8 >> right click on the volume and then select delete.

Then if you wanna go back to the full hard drive >> right click on drive C >> then click on Extend volume>> then click next , make sure you have the partition selected >> then click next >> and then click Finish.

Now when you restart your computer, you will not see the choose operating system massage.

Windows server 2008 active directory new features

We are going to discuss about the new features in Active Directory Of Windows Server 2008,Or improvements in active directory in Windows Server 2008.
There are lots of new features introduced in Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, but we are going to discuss the just important ones.

(RDOC) Read only Domain Controller

Read only domain controller (RDOC) just supports inbound replication, but not support outbound replication. It means (RDOC) accepts the changes in other Domain Controller but you cannot create a new object in it and cannot make changes or modify the older one.

Read only domain controller (RDOC) gives extra security to your networks. For example if your office or database is far cry from you and you cannot provide security to your office physically  and your mind feel insecurity that anyone can access your database then you can secure your database through Read only domain controller (RDOC).

Server Core

Server core is a light weight version which newly introduced in Windows Server 2008. Server core can operate and manage through commands. Actually Server Core is a command prompt, and you can manage your server and domain through Server Core.

Note: I will explain server core in detail in my next article Named (Server Core In Detail)

Fine-Grained Password Policies

In Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and 2003, Active Directory domainswere limited to one and only one password policy and this was a bad idea. But Microsoft learned from their previous versions of Windows Server software and introduced fine-grained password policies in Windows Server 2008. In fine-grained password policies the administrators can deploy more than one password policy within a single domain.

Moreover, through Fine-Grained Password Policies You can deploy Specific type policy on users and groups and make their password less Strict and More Strict.

Auditing of Active Directory modification and deletions

There is an improvement in Auditing of Active Directory in Windows Server 2008.
The administrator can do auditing of modification and deletions in Active Directory and also know about where modification and deletions are carrying out in a object.

Ability to Start and Stop Active Directory as Service

It uses to stop or restart Active Directory® Domain Services (ADDS) in the Windows Server® 2008 operating system.  The administrators now have the ability to stop the Active Directory services for various reasons. By the help of this the you can do many maintenance tasks such as moving Database file from one hard disk to another or to do other tasks of off line maintenance by stopping your services in off line mode and do the task and restart your Active Directory.

Add password to documents in office 2010

Sometimes you need to keep your important documents secure so only certain individuals can read and edit them. Microsoft office 2010  help users to prevent the files from unauthorized access by providing the feature of “Encrypt with Password”, which allows users to make their files password protected. This step-by-step guide describes how to set (and remove) a password for documents in Microsoft office 2010.

Note:  In this post I am using a Word document, but the process of encryption is the same in Excel and PowerPoint.

How To Password Protect A Word or Excel 2010 Document Using Built-in Office Encryption

Step 1
  • Open your document.
  • Click the File tab, then Click Info.Under “Permissions” click on “Protect Document” > “Encrypt with Password”

Step 2
  • The Encrypt Document dialog will appear, Type in a strong password and then Click OK to finish.
  • Re-enter your password in next step and then hit OK.

  • You will also observe the following message

  • Press Ctrl + S to save your document. Now your file is password protected and no one can open it without entering password.
  • Now when you or someone else tries to open the document, the correct password will need to be entered to access it.

To remove password from document:

  • Open your document.
  • Provide the password and click “OK” to access the contents.

  • Go to File->Info->Permissions->Encrypt with password.

  • The following screen will display which contains your file’s password, so simply select the password and delete it and click “OK” button.

  • Your document is now password free and open for everyone to read and edit.Press Ctrl + S to save your document
.
Conclusion

If you have important documents that you don’t want just anyone to be able to edit or access then Encryption is nice tool that will let you protect them.
